It’s no secret crime in California has gone out of control in many areas. One of the worst is Oakland where the city has been struggling with abandoned, stripped, stolen cars dumped on city streets, among other pervasive criminal activity. But the latest sign of this trend is the elimination of some traffic lights.
According to a report from KPIX, residents near one street intersection which now has stop signs instead of traffic lights blames the whole thing on a nearby homeless encampment. They claim the city’s refusal to do something about the criminal activity centered in that encampment has led to rampant theft.
What’s happening to street lights in Oakland, and we’ve seen in other cities like Las Vegas, is thieves ripping out copper wires. It’s happened so much that it appears Oakland officials have decided to just replace the traffic lights with stop signs.

The root cause is a ruling class that has repudiated public safety.
Oakland already has a bad reputation, but expect similar in other (and bigger) cities in the USA. Unless there are bigc hanges from the top.
Oakland has elected to return to the libtard Stone Age
Third world here we come, open up that Golden Gate.
Street lights have become part of the surveillance and control grid. Not so bad to see fewer of them.
Yeah don’t arrest anybody just take them away. Our Post Office no longer has P.O. Boxes outside the post office because vandals were stealing the mail. So now little old people, parapalegics etc have to go walk inside.
If only there was some group that could arrest these people ...
The locals in South Africa just steal the traffic lights for the copper and they do not get replaced.
Africans in America create Africa. That’s how ‘they’ want to live.
There needs to be a bounty on copper thieves.
So, no police, no stop signs, no lights, illegals can carry guns, but not us citizens. Sounds very much like traveling to a foreign 3rd world cess pool.
The idiot who wrote that headline and article meant signal lights, not street lights.
America is going through a slow-moving marxist cultural revolution.
Stalin and Mao both organized and enabled the most base and radical elements, from the lowest and least educated parts of society, to release violence on society in the name of destroying "old," conservative and religious culture associated with the bourgeoisie, the old regime, etc...
for them it was enabling illiterate peasants, ethnic minorities and "students" to shame and smash the old order
In the USA its ethnic minorities, students and lawyers used to shame and smash the old order.
In some cases, some places may be able to still "vote" their way to protect themselves, but for the country as a whole, that's highly likely.
You bet....And if more lighting made us safer, places like LA and Vegas would have little or no crime.
Signal lights are increasingly part of the same control grid, unfortunately.
Makes sense (for Oakland); it’s cheaper than investigating, finding, arresting and prosecuting.
Thanks to the likes of Pamela Price, Mayor Feng Shui (or whatever) and defunding the department, Oakland citizens no longer need a clock to measure police response time; they need a calendar.
All thieves. One family: three cars broken into, two cars stolen.
Gee, let me think. If a city could put secret cameras in place to catch copper thieves in action and then sentence them to prison for hard labor to five years could that discourage them not to do that?
It’s actually kind of stupid to think lighting prevents crime, after all, the eyes of criminals work the same as everyone else.
That and most lighting is so badly designed or installed that it makes it harder to see in the dark.
Especially floodlights. The room temperature IQ types install them shining horizontally so that when you are approaching one you can’t see anything.
A criminal just has to stand under it or slightly behind to achieve complete invisibility while his target is perfectly lit.
