Seize The Grey bested an eight-horse field to win the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes at a muddy Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
Entering the race at 9-1 odds, Seize The Grey ran ahead of Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan throughout the race. Mystik Dan finished second and Catching Freedom took third.
For the first time in 85 years, the Preakness Stakes was being run on a muddy track, conditions which clearly suited the three-year-old colt. Jockey Jaime Torres, competing in his first Preakness Stakes, rode Seize The Grey to a wire-to-wire victory. Mystik Dan challenged Seize The Grey on the final stretch but could not catch the gray colt.
Seize The Grey’s trainer Wayne Lucas earned his seventh Preakness Stakes crown and became the oldest trainer ever to win the race at age 88.

D Wayne Lukas from Antigo, Wisconsin, also the Home of John Bradley. “Squirrel Tails Wanted!”
I also liked to see the Jockey hugging him and petting him through long post race walk, The horse did it
kind of glad Mystic Dan didnt win...for some stupid reason, the Belmont is at Saratoga this year, the distance is shorter, omly a Mile and Quarter instead of Mile and a Half. Would have been an asterik race had Dan won the Triple Crown...
Regular Belmont track is undergoing a complete tear down & rebuild.
If I would’ve bet, my horse came 3rd. I would’ve lost $80. ($100 to win, $100 to place, $200 to show).
I actually hit the trifecta. Too bad I only wagered $1.
Had Seize the Grey in the family pool. If we were actually all together I would have taken $80. I’ll never see it. But I do get bragging rights for a couple of weeks for whatever that’s worth...
Pimlico will soon be doing major renovations, so the Preakness will be run at Laurel Park next year, then back to Pimlico the following year.
With taxpayer dollars, I’m sure.
That jockey is a young man. This was his debut for a Triple Crown race. Beginner’s luck?
Yeah, the jockey was giving Seize the Grey his props. Beautiful horse.
Love the name. I’d like to adapt it as my slogan.
Yeah, at least my bet netted me about $182.00. Just wish I’d had the guts to put down even 10 bucks.
Aqueduct is running Belmont’s meet right now...they had the Belmont before. Saratoga claims they cant configure to a Mile and Half...they why move it there?. Aqueduct can go a mile half..makes zero sense. Anyway, dont matter now..thats why im glad Mystic Dan lost.
Puerto Rico has an outstanding Jockey School there and are just pumping out world class riders. Irad Ortiz..Jose Ortiz..Maunuel Franco..Christian Torrez...and now this kid too.
I guess they didn’t have it kill another horse like they did last year at the Preakness so people could get their kicks
It sounds like he was very appreciative of the opportunity to go to school there. I’m happy for him!
I am so out of it. I heard the tragedy of Aqueduct closing, but had no idea the Belmont STAKES is at Toga.
I don’t pay much attention anymore, since the Riots and the tracks and jockeys took bows for BLM.
Aqueduct is not closing..and the Belmont Stakes are at Saratoga just this one year...everything back to normal next year..
