LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning after trying to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's PGA Championship.
Traffic outside the golf course had been stopped after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET.
Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. Scheffler was released at 8:40 a.m. ET and headed to Valhalla. The assault charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors.
Scheffler's attorney said it would be up to Scheffler whether he plays today in the second round.
According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.
At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler's car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.
After about 20 to 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer. The officer grabbed Scheffler's arm to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Darlington. The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs.
Darlington was standing at the entrance when Scheffler was detained. Darlington said Scheffler turned to him and asked, "Can you help?"
According to Darlington, an officer instructed him to back away.
The mayor is a Dem who looks a lot like every other slimy earwig Dem. I'd bet they press full charges and try for a much bigger shakedown - it's the Democrat way.
Are you always like this?....BTW which Naps is this?
If there was,in fact,a fatality there that was being investigated the cops very probably had a legitimate reason to restrict traffic. So all that remains is if he disobey a cop’s orders.
I’m sure Sheffler had no way of knowing there had just been a traffic fatality. Especially since this happened before daylight and in a rain storm.
Yes, he should have stopped, but the charges aginst him are ‘way over the top’!
With all those charges, you would think he was Donald Trump.
I don’t think it matters what he knew or didn’t know. When one sees a police roadblock you’re obliged to assume there’s a good reason and you’re required obey any orders you receive.
Do you have any links to news stories that he ran over people?
If they think this is Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief, wait til they see Speith and Justin Thomas tee off.
Here’s the arresting officer.

I just heard a brief description of the incident on WOR in NYC. From what they said it sounds like it was fairly ugly with the potential of serious injury.
Well consider this....going from tournament to tournament I would imagine these golfers see traffic cones, police emergency lights and traffic being controlled by police almost on a daily basis.
The Players Championship at TPC is very close to where I live and during the tournament there’s always police everywhere.
I suspect he more than likely thought this was just one more routine tournament traffic situation. I’d also bet bypassing these situations is a very common thing for players to do.
Scheffler doesn’t have to have a clue.
You do what you’re told, make polite inquiries if you’d like to do something else.
You do NOT drive over a median.
The cop would have no way to know what the heck your intentions are.

BINGO!
The circumstances don’t matter. There had been an accident resulting in police/EMT involvement...be an adult and show some respect and consideration.
A man died this morning walking to the tournament. Yet all Scottie cared about was making his tee time. Speaks volumes to his character.
Scheffler is an entitled punk. He is rude to the fans and ignores those who pay the purse at these tournaments.
Same with Woods...arrogant to the core.
The PGA will threaten the city that if they don’t drop the charges, the tournament will not return to Louisville....and that will be that.
Sad commentary.
How does the copper attach himself to a vehicle? Is he part octopus with suction cups on his arms? Maybe the story could have said, cop grabbed onto the slow moving car and held on until perp slowed to a stop.
A tick attaches itself to something. A human grabs onto something.
Attached himself, oh pud!!
Per ESPN, the players were advised they could avoid it and go into the course. This thug cop overreacted.
His business will be Scottie’s soon.
You must be pretty close with Woods and Scheffler to make those kinds of remarks about their character
So he cared about making his tee time. In other words, going to work and doing his job. The only thing sad here is your comments.
