LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was detained by Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning while trying to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's PGA Championship.
Traffic outside the golf course had been stopped after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET.
According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.
At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler's car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.
After about 20 to 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer. The officer grabbed Scheffler's arm to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Darlington. The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs.
Darlington was standing at the entrance when Scheffler was detained. Darlington said Scheffler turned to him and asked, "Can you help?"
According to Darlington, an officer instructed him to back away.
"You need to get out of the way," the officer told Darlington. "Right now, he's going to jail, and there's nothing you can do about it."

You are assuming the SS was aware of the fatal accident as opposed to the usual early bird crowds swarming a major sporting event.
You typically cheerlead when the guy is black. You are a hypocrite to the highest level.
Just your usual naps sequitur...
Nutter.

They love the taste of jackboot leather, don’t they?
True, but you must admit...the mugshot with the beard could pass for an Islamic nut job!
Evidently the police officer doesn't follow the sport.
Or the rules, you don't throw yourself on a marked courtesy car slowly moving into the golf course as if he were a bomb laden terrorist rushing a military base.
Perhaps his pass did not apply to being at the scene of a fatal incident.
They were given the placards by the Tour and instructed that they could avoid the closures and go into the venue. Scottie was doing what he was told to do. Thug cop overreacted.
When did they get these placards?
Serious questions.
Did the tour know there was a fatal accident?
I can understand the value of players having a way to by-pass a line of cars wanting access to the club under normal circumstances, but .......if a cop says "stop" - you stop!!
1000%
The golfers routinely pass the traffic outside the course that is waiting to get in when the course opens to spectators. They have a special pass. Scheffler told the cop that he thought he was course security, not the police. It was still dark and it was raining. Scheffler was just doing what he normally does and stopped when he realized the cop was a cop.
BTW...since as Yogi Berra used to say..."The Game is 90% half mental", I wonder how Scheffler's round will turn out today.

Yep. Watching the PGA now. Scheffler is -2 on the day through 9, -6 for the tournament, 3 off the lead. Looking completely at ease, as if nothing happened. Huge support from the gallery.
FAR TOO MANY OF YOU DID NOT READ THE FULL ARTICLE.
Yes, It is longer than necessary and redundant, but it describes why Scheffler did what he did.
Based on that his behavior is completely understandable.
Literacy is your friend.
Oh brother. Get a life. He was going in because he had an early tee time. The cop was being overly zealous arresting him.
I’ve seen pics of “Free Scottie” t shirts in the gallery.
Way too many around here reflexively side with jackboots, not knowing or even wanting to know the details.
Addressing your dumbass statement, I will say yes.
5-under 66
Nice try tho.....LOL!
