Growing up, I was a Beatle fan and considered the Beach Boys more like teeny bopper bubble gum music.
“Pet Sounds” was saved by The Wrecking Crew but more so Tony Asher writing the lyrics with a more adult, mature theme.
I do have a CDR mono master copied direct from the master tape from a friend who re-mastered “Pet Sounds” - sound quality is far superior to the commercial pressing.
The Beatles early hits were definitely bubble gum. That’s why when the Stones arrived with their covers of R&B I was an instant fan.
So you don't consider "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" or "She Love You, Yeah, Yeah" as bubble gum? Both those songs could have been done by Archies.
