Compared to what was in the current music scene, those songs were filled with driving high energy that exploded on the American music scene and definitely NOT bubble gum.
Your "Archies" comment is beyond low IQ and ignorant of reality...LOL!!!
Additionally, the Beatles were doing R&B & country songs - from Little Richard to Carl Perkins.
Obviously, their music progressed VERY rapidly as other bands were plodding along.
I also enjoyed the Stones, Who and especially the Yardbirds with Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page & Jeff Beck as their lead guitarists at various times.
btw, Dennis Wilson, friend of Charlie Manson, fell of his boat and drowned.
Man, there is so much more to that story than you seem to realize! Yours is an extremely distorted watered down version of it. The reality is sad beyond words. Someday I hope there will be a full length in-depth movie on the real story of The Beach Boys.
Sorry, dudette...but clearly you’re triggered by truth & reality.
Now go find some handy dandy meds to help find reality.
You don’t understand the relationship between Dennis and Charles Mansion, you don’t understand the relationship between Dennis and his yacht and don’t have the facts right about his drowning. Do some more research before spouting off. Get back to me when you can demonstrate a more thorough understanding of the three things you post about. Otherwise, it’s three strikes and you’re out. I don’t have the patience to explain the true facts of the matters you pretend to know about. Especially not today.
Of course, being the musical history genius that you are, you do know that The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” was the inspiration for the Beatles “Sgt. Pepper”. This after the Beatles “Revolver” inspired Pet Sounds. “Bubble gum” ? You’re on the wrong thread, sugar.
You are correct, sir. After Dennis fell headlong into alcoholism and became a down and out street bum alcoholic, and after they took the only love of his life (his yacht) away and after he went diving in the empty slip looking for the stuff he’d thrown overboard during the high times, he was resurfacing from a dive and was knocked unconscious when he hit his head on a dock piece and floated back down to the bottom where he lay dead in a fetal position. He’d once made the mistake of pulling over to pick up some hitch hiking hippie chicks who followed him home and moved into his house only later to invite their leader, one Charles Mansion, who also moved in. Dennis tried to throw them out. Manson showed Dennis a bullet and said, “this has your name on it”. Dennis was never quite the same and a downward spiral ensued.
Thanks much and what a Charlie Manson story!! Dennis wrote some tunes with him? Dennis was the biggest babe magnet of all the Beach Boys it seems/ How about he was never a good drummer. He would play live with the Beach Boys but not on their records. Where they would bring in a drummer from the Wrecking Crew...amirite?
“I also enjoyed the Stones, Who and especially the Yardbirds with Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page & Jeff Beck as their lead guitarists at various times.”
For me and my friends it was Stones over Beatles any day of the week. We also liked Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, Cream. John Mayall with Eric Clapton (the beanie album) All of them ahead of the Beatles.

John Mayall, the legendary British blues musician, announced his retirement from touring due to age and health concerns. His last and final tour dates took place in early 2022, with his final public performance occurring on March 26, 2022, at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California.
You are correct, sir! The only thing that I can not attest to is that Dennis wrote some songs with Mansion. That I just don’t know.
Thanks. Couldn’t remember.
Of course the Archies were not as good as the Beatles. But the songs I mentioned are now considered bubble gum and you rarely hear them on a juke box or any cover versions. And yes, they progressed into better lyrics, melodies, and advanced arrangements, and earned their place music history.
I have been a musician all my life...from Wes Montegomery to early 50's rock...to the early Girl groups ...to Motown...to the the British invasion and on. I've been lead vocal in bands, played rhythm guitar, and a drummer to this day on my electronic Roland kit. I know the what categorizes a particular sound. Want to debate further?
As I figured, you never realized the high energy of Martha and the Vandelas, nor Buddy Holly, nor Elvis, nor anything produced by Phil Spector or Berry Gordy. You are lost in your Beatlemania, and that's okay. Just don't try to tell a 75 year old musician classifications of music, admittedly some were cross-overs. So what music did Gabor Szabo play? No Googling.
Give me a well-known singer or group/band and I’ll tell you what type of music. C’mon, let’s have some fun.
I moved to that area in 1983, about three months before Dennis drowned, and shortly before the I-105 freeway really got going. Space X is now about a block from where I used to work, on W. 120th Street east of the Hawthorne Airport. I had been told once that they lived down by Leuzinger High School, but they were on 116th, near the airport.
I went to Holly’s once, before it switched over to the Hawthorne Grill, and years before it was in Pulp Fiction. I recognized the fake rock decor immediately when I saw the first scene it was in. Took my family to Pan’s, owned by the same family, about eight years ago on our way to Disneyland. It was only about three years ago I learned that my apartment on W 136th Street near Prairie was about four short blocks from Marilyn Monroe’s childhood home.
Not surprised. You wouldn't know the difference between Soprano, Mezzo-soprano, Alto , Tenor, and on down to bass.
Can you discern the musical genres between Ella Fitzgerald, Patsy Cline, Skeeter Davis, Loretta Lynn, Carol King, and Taylor Swift? We're they pure Country? Country Pop? Pop Rock? Folk or Folk Rock? And how do you discern their differences?
Easy one here: What is the difference between Lynard Skynard and Blondie? Or between Bon Jovie and Journey? Got nothing? Too bad, so sad Mr. I Wanna Hold Your Hand bubble-gummer.
