"I was taught to drive on stick shift."

After driving manual transmissions for years it took me a while to overcome the urge to push in the clutch after buying my first automatic transmission vehicle.

I learned on an automatic. My dad then taught me how to drive on a manual. My Toyota truck had a manual transmission. Kept that thing for 25 years.

I preferred driving manual until I got pregnant. Still prefer manual, but most minivans are automatic and I had a busy brood to haul around.

I did the same thing you did. For the first month or so I was reaching for the stick and raising my leg to work a non-existent clutch.

My first car was a 1969 Chevy, automatic.

The headlight switch (lo/hi) was on the floor to the left of the pedals, which I believe was the norm then.

I wondered how many people mashed one of those buttons trying to work the clutch.
