Reminds me of people who can’t fly on airplanes because they are not in control.
Literally they miss out on life, and don’t realize the trip to the airport by car is more risky than the airplane flight.

Apples and oranges. My car is an extension of me in the way that an airplane isn't. The new cars in 2026 and after, self-driven or not, will have built-in features to decide when you are not safe for driving. These features will not be able to be legally disabled. Ultimately, it is not just whether the algorithm or me decides where and if the car moves, but an outside agent, government or 3rd party, that decides if I am "endangering" myself or someone else.
I would hate it if the freedom a proper car allows got turned into the hassle of the airport.
