I am in complete SHOCK! I just now found out that our own BRILLIANT Charles Henrickson passed away on April 28. Anyone who knew Charles knew how INCREDIBLE he was. His intelligence was OFF-SCALE. Nobody had a better way with words than Charles. At a drop of the hat he could could compose absolutely BRILLIANT and HILARIOUS parody songs. Some might remember that for a long while he was my partner in "crime" for producing the DUmmie FUnnies. I am very fussy about my writing so only someone whose writing I have total respect for would I allow to have carte blanche to write the DUmmie FUnnies whenever he wanted.
Okay, I will have a lot more to say but below is a reprint from his OBITUARY.....
Charles Michael Henrickson March 7, 1953 - April 28, 2024 Charles M. Henrickson fell asleep in Jesus on April 28, 2024. He was a resident of Greenwood, IN, and formerly of Chicago and St. Louis.
He was born March 7, 1953 to LeRoy and Marjorie Clark Henrickson. He was raised by his mother and Swedish grandparents on the north side of Chicago – loved Swedish Heritage, member of Swedish council of St. Louis and Indianapolis.
Charles had an extensive history of educational accomplishments. Charles graduated from Concordia University River Forest in 1974 with a B.A. in history. He earned his Master of Divinity in 1990, Master of Sacred Theology in 1995, and all coursework for his PhD at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. It was there where he met his first wife Sally.
Of that union, was born his only child, Anna, in 1995. Anna was born during his tenure/service in Sterling Nebraska at Immanuel Lutheran.
He married his wife, Susan Toole Bass, on July 4, 2020. She survives. Survivors also include his daughter, Anna (Aaron) Frei of St. Louis, MO; sister, Karen Pignataro; step children, Chandler (Colleen) Bass, Emma (Austin) Norman, Mary (Phil) Theiss, and Matt (Jenny) Sontag; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and half brother, James Henrickson.
Charles was currently serving as Pastor at Concordia Lutheran Church in Greenwood. He also had served at St. Matthew’s Sullivan, MO, St. Matthew Bonne Terre, MO, Redeemer Lutheran Potosi, MO, and Grace Lutheran De Soto, MO.
He loved preaching and teaching the Gospel that we are saved by Grace alone, through Faith alone, by Christ alone, coming to us through Scripture alone. These words by the Apostle Paul describe his life: “And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (I Corinthians 2:1-2)
He taught at Concordia Seminary, Concordia Universities: Seward, Irvine, Mequon, and River Forest, DELTO, Providence Classical Christian Academy in St. Louis, Wittenberg Academy, Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education, as well as free lance tutoring in Greek, Hebrew, Latin and Swedish.
Charles was one of the original hosts of “Concord Matters” program on KFUO.
He was a five time convention delegate at the LCMS National Convention.
Charlie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He loved languages, writing parodies, hymns, and poems. He also loved traveling with friends, great food, and fellowship.

I remember Charles well, I always loved reading what he posted. Rest in the Lord Charles, you will be missed.
Mr. Snap Judgement has just weighed in at an incredibly "appropriate time." Someone's funeral. Anybody ever tell you that you have impeccable as well as sensitive timing?
Oh, no. I’m sorry PJ :( RIP Charles, we’ve lost a good man
There is a lot of intellectual BS on the Web but Charles was the REAL DEAL. Not only did he know ancient Greek and Latin well enough to teach those languages but, as we have seen, he was a beyond incredible wordsmith. Nobody could compose parody songs with his speed and wit. On top of that he had a vast knowledge of not just Biblical but general history as well. My wife and her sister were in awe of him during the one time I met Charles in person in 2019.
FYI
RIP, Charles.
Another wonderful FReeper passes.
RIP.
As wonderful as was his writing on earthly topics, infinitely more important — and great — was his writing on the Gospel. Charlie was a faithful pastor in the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod (of which I am also a pastor); I found his sermons to be among the best because they always, ALWAYS, pointed to our sin and our Savior from that sin, Jesus Christ. I will miss those sermons most of all.
While it is certainly a loss for us still left in this world, he has received the crown of life from his Lord. Well done, good and faithful servant! Enter the joy of your Master!
Indeed we have lost so many. RIP Prayers for strength and comfort to his loved ones. Thank you Charles for all that you posted here. May we all enjoy meeting you in heaven.
This is sad news. I always enjoyed his song parodies, and “Self Recanted Evening” was one of my favorites. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
*Anybody ever tell you that you have impeccable as well as sensitive timing?*
I don’t think God’s reps care who wins elections.
Rest in Peace Charles, and rest with your Lord and ours. Your legacy will live on. You will never be forgotten.
With the saints give rest, O Lord, to Thy servant Charles, and make his memory to be eternal.
RIP for a favorite FReeper. None of us is getting any younger.
Lutheran PING!
May Charles’ Memory be Eternal!
71 is still very young these days, hell I am 71 working at Home Depot lifting 50 lb bags regularly running up and down huge ladders ect. 71 is still young to young to die!!
Ever since a friend of mine passed away in March of last year, VERY unexpectedly, I have been more conscious of the fact that I could, like him, just lay down one day, fall asleep here and wake up in Heaven. On one hand, it's a day we all long for, but on the other hand, it's also a day which we secretly fear because it means leaving loved ones behind, at least, temporarily.
And, I think if we are honest with ourselves, many people fear death because even though we want to go to Heaven, we still fear the unknown, the passing from this life to the next. And if one isn't ready to meet Jesus, he/she has even more to fear.
It is my prayer that Charles' passing is a wake up call to those here in FR, and as well his circle of influence, who don't know the Lord to make Jesus their Lord and Savior.
