To bring together two of the biggest controversial political topics of the moment, in the Israel-Hamas war we are witnessing a battle between a government that has almost entirely banned abortion, and government that largely permits abortion. Ironically, a lot of American pro-choicers are shouting for the support of the anti-abortion regime, and a lot of American pro-lifers are demonstrating their support of the regime that permits, and, in some cases, pays for abortion.
As you may have guessed, in the Palestinian territories, abortion is almost entirely banned; it is only permitted in cases of saving the life of the mother. Abortion is not permitted in cases of rape or incest. What’s more, “written approval from the pregnant woman and her husband or guardian must also be provided, and these records are kept for a minimum of 10 years.”
In Israel, abortion is largely legal, and the government will pay for it in certain circumstances.
People’s worldviews are made up of a complicated mesh of competing priorities and interests; a genuine pro-lifer is likely to find the Hamas philosophy and worldview appalling, as it amounts to protecting unborn children for nine months, and then declaring open season on murdering any Israeli or international civilian in any trimester, so to speak. It’s “pro-some-life, and anti-other-life.” The typical pro-choice activist may well find Israel’s methods of retaliation too harsh and violent to accept. People care about abortion, but look to other criteria when deciding which side to support in the ongoing war.
But it is more than a little ironic to see headlines like, “What’s happening in Gaza is a reproductive justice issue too.” Those angry progressive campus activists have found a strict, religiously-based, anti-abortion regime that they’re willing to defend . . . in Hamas. You almost have to wonder how many of these activists know that abortion is banned in the Palestinian territories, and if they did know, whether their enthusiasm for defending Palestine would wane.
The only thing this article did not say was about the trans and drag queens supporting Gaza but that had not started happening when this was written.
Do conservatives know about Tel Aviv’s pride parades?
Jim Geraghty (and NRO) hates Israel almost as much as you do.
Jimmy also hates President Trump. With a passion.
You select good company. ;-)
“Do conservatives know about Tel Aviv’s pride parades?”
You mean these Evangelical pastors who go over to Tel Aviv in June and see that? Why don’t they ever say anything when they return? Are all those pastors blind? Do they go to Tel Aviv with a seeing eye dog and a cane?
Yes I wonder why no one talks about the pink elephant in the room.
This is from wiki
“In 2012, the parade attracted crowds exceeding 100,000, making it again the largest gay pride event in the Middle East and Asia. The event is advertised all around the world by the Israeli Tourism Ministry, marking the city of Tel Aviv as “the” premiere LGBT tourism destination.”
Aw but you all don’t hear me
I don’t know and have never met Jim Geraghty. I just pulled the story up because it was from National Review and I like that site.
I don’t hate Israel.
I do hate abortion.
>> I don’t know and have never met Jim Geraghty. I just pulled the story up because it was from National Review and I like that site.
Well, maybe before climbing into bed with that “lover” you should find out about them.
>> I don’t hate Israel. I do hate abortion.
You have your work cut out for you right here in progressive America, then. Maybe you should give supporting Hamas a rest — you know, the Hamas that CUTS BABIES OUR OF THE WOMBS OF LIVE PREGNANT ISRAELI WOMEN. THAT Hamas. You are giving AID AND COMFORT TO A VILE ENEMY OF CHRIST. Get a clue!
Nervous Tick write: “Jim Geraghty (and NRO) hates Israel almost as much as you do. Jimmy also hates President Trump. With a passion.”
Ad hominem arguments are pretty damned weak. Geraghty’s personal views are not terribly relevant to the points that he raises. Is he wrong that abortion is illegal in the Palestinian territories but mostly legal, even subsidized, in Israel? If you have facts indicating that’s he’s wrong, please share. If he’s not wrong, then his point stands, i.e., that it’s ironic that the leftist, pro-Hamas college-crowd demonstrators are rooting for an anti-abortion regime.
>> Ad hominem arguments are pretty damned weak.
Well, that’s true. So let’s evaluate this on substance — please show me where Jim Geraghty cared about the abuse of Israeli women at the hands of Hamas — including murdering their unborn AFTER ripping them from their womb.
I’ll wait.
But sometimes what you call “ad hominem” is just me pointing out that Jim Geraghty is a Deep State-loving and America-hating neocon attempting to use Israeli abortion doctrine as a wedge issue against his true foe, which for years now has been Donald Trump (and his supporters).
Again, I’ll wait for your evidence-rich expose of the fallacy of my position.
Irishjuggler do you need me to post more stories on the topic? You know me I can. Oh wait...I did. After this article? I posted about how many abortions are done in Israel and that yes they are paid for. It is a very long article but worth reading.
that is an interesting interpretation of his point.
combined with his other posts on the topic tonight-
his point is that hamas attacks are an act of God.
the revulsion stands regardless of the cloaking.
absolving genocidal maniacs as an act of God?
No such thing would ever occur.
If Hitler was taking over Italy now, not one post would exist about Italian abortion laws-nor would anyone claim Hitler was doing God’s work.
Rule 4, Rules for Radicals: “Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. “You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”
Abortion in Israel is wrong. Gay pride in Israel is wrong. Genocide by Muslims who want all Jews and Christians and homosexuals dead is the enemy we must stop NOW.
There was abortion in America when the Nazis were mass murdering, the Japanese were mass murdering, the Maoists were mass murdering, the Khmer Rouge were mass murdering, and there’s abortion here while Hamas is mass murdering. I can fight abortion here, and abortion in Israel, all the while choosing God’s people over the evil of Hamas. It’s called faithfulness, and I’m not giving it up for Satan, or Alinsky, or Hamas, or frankly for you.
Abortion is an Abomination before God.
I hear you.
We Evangelicals are told a different story for the most part.
From what I read after doing research, most Jews in Israel are atheists, which would explain the abortion issue. Less than 2% are Christians. They need Jesus.
It upset me when I learned a few years back about the Tel Aviv parades. How can this be with what I’ve been taught?
Truth first. Narratives are not always correct even if they sound good or are what we want to hear.
BTW I am half Jewish.
Yours is the correct response.
The poster LOVES to post articles of Heresy. NEVER, any articles of revival
By thier fruits shall you know them.
Pray for her.
Both sides need YESHUA. The difference 9a that Israelis don’t kill and rape little children
