I would often get Joan Jett mixed up with Pat Benatar, still do. I’ll hear the song of one and think the other lady must have sang it.
Only due to their similarity in appearance/style of dress and makeup. Benatar can sing opera (and has done so). Joan just screams, which is fine for a punk record. Benatar is famous for her breathwork, range and control. Just the beginning “woah-ah-woah-ah-woah-ah-whoooooooaaaaaa” opening from “Love is a Battlefield” is extremely difficult to accomplish, and Benatar made it sound easy.
