A _honeys damn near killed me in 1991. I don't do buffets anymore. I was in the hospital for almost three weeks. Several feet of intestines were removed. A bloom of microbes took me down about two hours after eating. A few days in the hospital and things were only getting worse. They went in with a scope camera and immediately sent me into surgery.

According to the medical team it was the sliced mangoes. Don't ever eat sliced fresh fruit out in the open. Particularly melons, and handled fruits like kiwis, papaya, mangoes, etc....

Good advice on not eating sliced fruit at restaurants. You have no idea how long it was sitting out there. I rarely ever get sick but when I do, it's usually from something I ate at a restaurant.

The last time was in a diner and I ordered sliced tomatoes as a substitue for hash browns with my omelette. I knew something was wrong by the time I got to the parking lot. I spent the next 24-48 hours dealing with nausea and diarrhea. I'm thinking the sliced tomatoes had to have been sitting out there a long time.

Another gross thing is the fruit they have at bars, like the sliced lemons and limes that they put on the rim of your drinks. Unless you know for a fact that the citrus is freshly sliced, stay away from that too.
