“ How can you miss at that range.”

i’t’s not hard when trying to shoot fast, especially with a heavy trigger. Try dry fire practice with a laser sight on your gun. Aimthe laser dot at a spot on the wall. Then try to fire 5 shots quickly at that spot. You will be surprised how much that red dot bounces around over the wall if you are not practiced.

[IT’S A CAR!!! Let them steal it. That is what insurance is for. How utterly stupid.]

Yeah, that’s what the Justice System is for, too. And we can all see how well that’s working out.

Criminals need to be stopped during the commission of the crime. Let *them* be afraid for a change.

Cars can go forever on a flat tire. And the DEA put out an old video about shooting the engine. Utterly useless.
They unload on a car with everything you can think of, Bonny and Clyde style.

Then an agent walks up and gets in, starts it and drives away.
You have to hit the driver to stop a car.

The objective is to limit the carjacker's options, not necessarily to stop him. Slowing him down and forcing him to work harder to steer helps others get to safety.

the DEA put out an old video about shooting the engine. Utterly useless.

One shot in the engine block, granted, is a gamble but if you hit the right wire, a fuel line, the serpentine belt or such, you just might take away the carjacker's option of using the vehicle as a weapon. A fire under the hood would shorten that drive. Arguably, if you shot the front bumper in the right spot it would trigger the air bags. I've seen cars drive for hours after a crash without coolant nor oil but I've also seen where a piece of metal kicked up off a roadway took out the ignition system in a split second. The computer systems in modern vehicles are particularly finicky when components are damaged.

unload on a car with everything you can think of, Bonny and Clyde style.

Agreed, which is why they'd empty the rest of the magazine after the one to the tire and one to the engine, except do it right through the door; none of this trying to shoot at odd angles over the window sill.

Unless you have no protective cover and the driver is trying to mow you down, you never shoot a weapon at a car if you have half a brain.

Your first priority is to avoid being hit by the vehicle, and warn or assist others to do the same.

Your second priority is to evaluate whether someone else’s life is in danger from the vehicle, balanced against:

a. chances of a stray bullet injuring or killing a bystander down range, and

b. what you will have to explain to the cops, a judge and a jury that would justify your actions and avoid criminal penalties.

Very few jurisdictions in this country allow cowboy vigilante antics. And very few jurors would say that a vehicle is worth more than the potential death of a human, even that of a lowlife carjacker.

Except when it becomes a weapon.

There are tragic videos online of carjackers killing innocent drivers after crashing at high speeds. They appear to out of their mind or on drugs, driving at incredibly high speeds and crashing without care. This wasn't a professional thief stealing a high end car, this was a whackjob or drug user stealing a work truck in broad daylight with people right there.

The first failure in the chain was that the keys were in the truck (the engine may have been running).

In most States, it is a felony crime to take a vehicle that it is not yours . It is also a felony crime to deliberately run someone over with a motor vehicle. Like wise to flee apprehensive from an Officer of the Law. Said murder victim was within his rights to use his firearm to prevent or stop a felony. And sine the actor was already committing a crime he lost his right to claim self defense. Kinda like the Dyanmnic Trio from Georgia.

Odds are one in a thousand (maybe 10,000) that he understands what “point blank” means, yet he used the term anyway.
