A middle school in Massachusetts found itself embroiled in a massive culture war. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss on The Young Turks.
Amherst, in western Massachusetts, is the nexus of four liberal-arts colleges and a major public university. It is home to about forty thousand people, including a fluctuating population of undergraduates and grad students. On its woodsy, winding residential streets, Black Lives Matter and “In This House . . .” signs sprout alongside native gardens of holly, bayberry, and mountain laurel. In the 2020 election, more than ninety per cent of the town’s voters went for Joe Biden.
A joke you hear a lot is that, in Amherst, only the “H” is silent. It’s a town known for raucous debate and lefty political infighting. Still, even by these disputatious standards, the arguments that have been carrying on around Amherst Regional Middle School, or arms, have been vociferous. How and when they started depends on whom you ask, but they broke into wider public view last May, when Amherst’s high-school newspaper, the Graphic, published a five-thousand-word article headlined “ ‘It’s Life or Death’: Failure to Protect Trans Kids at arms a Systemic Problem.” The piece anonymously quoted several trans and gender-nonconforming students, who recounted numerous incidents of bullying and harassment, harmful encounters with guidance counsellors, and fruitless complaints to administrators. Among the article’s striking details was that, at a prayer meeting at school, a guidance counsellor reportedly said, “In the name of Jesus, we bind that LGBTQ gay demon that wants to confuse our children.” (The counsellor later denied making this comment.) That same staffer, the piece alleged, handed out chocolate crucifixes to students."

I used to go see concerts at the Iron Horse in Northampton across the river from Amherst, and even fifteen years ago, it was insufferably leftist. Can’t imagine going there now.

Liberals have a major trouble. They can’t get conservatives to do the things they want them to do so they have to manufacture them. That’s why they create Neo-Nazi groups. That’s why they spin up fake Hate crimes. That’s why Trans people are always claiming they are the victims of genocide by white MAGA hats.
Something smells with this story. “Chocolate crucifixes” sounds like something sodomites would hand out at a “gay pride” parade to mock Christianity.

I would anticipate a dwindling supply a student due to the hatred of children.

I saw BB King and Kenny Wayne Shepard at the college auditorium. There were only about a hundred people. The concert rocked. I used to have to commute through the U Mass campus daily, nice town on the surface just don’t scratch too deep.
This is laughable, as these two idiot leftists try to rationalize their own stupid unworkable policies by making up a moral code out of thin air, having already dumped 5,000 years of Western Civ. They don’t know the law, but keep saying what you “absolutely can’t” or “should” do.
The Young Turks make liberals seem sane.
The best thing to watch is two liberals try to out virtue each other. It’s the reason I identified as a liberal at work(university). Nothing better than saying to a liberal college type “I am not comfortable assuming gender here”.
