There are many Vietnamese communities and residents around the IS. Every on of them I have met or had the pleasure to work with, have been role model citizens. This guy, like any mentally ill person, has issues.
The first wave of people in the mid-70s were real refugees, people who knew what Communism looked like and what the VC really did. They were mostly all OK.
But the later versions are for the most part opportunists, or the children of the Cadres themselves.
Worked with many of both flavors. There are whole sections of San Jose which are 98% VN. Lotta ARVN types who were fun to talk to - “We go back! We KILL the Communists!!”. Attaboy. Love that rap.
But the comment was really about the fraudulence of the newspaper headlines. “Florida Man” = some guy from Colombia; “California man” = some creep from Oaxaca; etc. It’s a cover up to soften the reality that some SOB from another country just committed another horriffic crime in the US.
