I know nothing of its replacement, but I’m not sorry to see it go. Our first firefight with that POS was a disaster, in part because three out of five jammed up. Tight. We were practically helpless, unable to return fire. It took balls of steel to come and save us. 4/30/1967

Don’t worry - they didn’t fix a thing. The M16A4 I had (I was its first “owner”), required remedial action twice in a firefight, while we were pinned down in the street. Stripping double feeds with a Leatherman while guys are getting shot is tons of fun. I had a buddy, when he was in AFG - his crapped out and he had to use it like a bolt action rifle.

Blame your own ordnance division for substituting incorrect powder despite the designers specifications. An ordnance division that was butthurt about the M14 being replaced and in response tried to sabotage the M16 program.
