Hybrids are typically the worst of both worlds. Double the weight and slower than both ICE and EVs.

The last generation of Toyota hybrid was available in both ICE and hybrid. The hybrid model only weighed a couple of hundred more pounds (smaller battery, smaller ICE). The hybrid version has less horsepower (200 vs. ~280) and a LOT less torque (267 lb-ft compared to 163 lb-ft).

On the other hand, the hybrid version gets ~40 mpg vs. 25-30 mpg for ICE.

Toyota batteries are proven technology, and last plenty long, and replacing a smaller hybrid battery is less expensive than replacing a full EV battery.

That said, I do not like the additional complexity of the hybrid, so I have the 2018 ICE version, and will maintain that forever rather than buying the hybrid successor.

I had a hybrid ONCE. Someone cut me off and I crashed into the jersey wall (sandwiched). But the reason it happened was the Hybrid didnt’ have enough power to speed up and get around the truck pulling a large trailer. I will never own a weak powered car again.
