Intuitively, I thought the total force would be much smaller also, like thousandths of a gram. Well, we were wrong.
But the change during a solar eclipse (compared to the moon at 90° from the sun) is, in simple terms, about 1/6 of the total pull or around 2.7 ounces, which is pretty dang close to what you said!
