It is something we all animal lovers have had to do. I was raised on a farm where such things had to be done quite often, but putting down a sick farm animal is quite different than putting down a loyal house pet. I had to do the same a few weeks ago. I still miss my little dogs and cats from the past.
That is why I do not watch movies like THE YEARLING, OLD YELLER or WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS.

Only thing worse is seeing your pet run over right in front of your eyes.

When I was six, I was sitting on our front porch and watched our poodle go under the wheels of a school bus. That was brutal.

I was changing clothes when Bailey was hit. I heard an agonized scream and ran outside to find him bleeding, shaking violently and barely able to walk.

My neighbor told us what happened because her father in law was the person who struck Bailey. It affected him because he loves animals. It was just a tragic accident.
