Why not just acknowledge the kindness Trump has shown here and save your scorn over other issues for another political thread.
His penchant for McDonald's should help you understand he does not see himself as an elite person. However, his world is primarily impressed with style over substance, so he plays to their itch to have credibility with them. My wife and I do something similar to this. You don't want to spend a lot of time there, but you do have to show up to “represent.”
He throws his gold toilet and multiple planes around to impress the high-brow simpletons, while he is actually very down-to-earth, himself, outside of that. That is how he can get along with so many, because he connects at that level, with people he believes he can trust. He trusts the common person over all the inherited wealth people he is around, save for only a few.
Look to his sons, and his wives, and even his daughters. These people are, or were, generally also down-to-earth and built themselves up. The one wife he regrets (had a while-married sexual encounter with) provided him with a daughter that seems okay, even. Each of them handle themselves generally well, even if dancing in liberal circles.
If you go to one of his rallies, you can see how he handles himself and relaxes. He knows he is around safe people who are not toxic.
He is not an “egomaniac.” He is someone who uses the tools he has across environments to achieve ends. Perhaps, humorously so, like Bruce Wayne, being the “Batman” he once claimed to a child, in the recent past.
I think you need to reassess your understanding of him, from the ground, up.

There is a big difference in not taking shit off people and giving it back to them and just going off on someone just because you are an “egomaniac”.
I’ve hardly ever seen Trump just go after anyone.
