Is that like the Family Guy episode where Peter has Stewie injected with anabolic steroids and he becomes ripped with loads of muscle?

Oh, great. With all our other problems now we’re going to have to deal with Rambo mice.
(In all seriousness, this is promising news.)

“...but it does seem to trigger a molecular pathway that conveys many benefits of exercise to the heart, brain, and kidneys. “

Better than nothing? Sure.
One of the reasons sedentary people get health problems is that their metabolism is constantly catabolic. The body has very little need to metabolize cholesterol, for example, because it doesn’t need it to generate as many endocrine substances, and then you end up with the bad effects of cholesterol, whereas active people’s bodies use it up.
However, I tend to wonder if it will act more like a drug and lose it’s potency, and in fact create a kind of rebound effect when one goes off of it, because they didn’t get any of the actual exercise benefits that exercise offers, such as building up muscle strength, bone density, or heart and lung endurance. Once you are off the stuff, you are just as frail as you were when you didn’t exercise but your metabolism baseline is even worse than when you started.
