I lived in San Francisco when HIV was first discovered. I’m a woman, but knew many gay men when I went to classes at American Conservatory Theatre. HIV was so new, newspapers were publishing obituaries with pictures. One of my friends in class, an extremely handsome gay man, was one of the first in town to die. very sad.
San Francisco, under Dianne Feinstein recommended that if people didn't want to get AIDS, they exercise, get plenty of rest, and drink orange juice.
They shouldn't have discontinued that practice! It's useful to be able to recognize the first symptoms, like Kaposi lesions and macula:
The papers shouldn't have discontinued the practice of publishing pictures. They served as Public Service Announcements.
