Liberty thinks they should be guaranteed a profit. We had an unusually heavy snowstorm one year that dumped us with about three feet of new store in 36 hours. Minor damage to one portion of my roof. They did a decent job of coverage. I'd been with them about eight years by this time.

Next year, we had a major hailstorm. All my neighbors were getting new roofs whether it leaked or not. Liberty came out and concluded "no hail damage" even if my roof was leaking like a seive. We went back and forth several times and they wouldn't budget.

Finally, I had to register a complaint with the state insurance commissioner's office. Their only purpose was to protect insurance companies from false claims, not consumers. My only option was to sue them for breach of contract. The legal costs would be more than paying for a depreciated roof out of pocket, so I made the only logical move.

I cancelled all insurance contracts with Liberty Mutual and had my family members do the same.
