“Several months later, in late fall 2023, I was caught in another teen takeover. That Saturday night the police were effective shepherds.”
Either he is stupid or recklessly brave. Why would he go back downtown at night after the first experience? Eventually, one of these mobs will kill a bystander.
He mentions several points in the downtown that he frequents. He is a rabbi. Possibly his place of work is a large old downtown synagogue. All clergy in Dem cities face this challenge, saddled with historic buildings existing on fumes.
The writer seems like a nice person with no common sense and out of touch with his surroundings. This is 2024, almost no metropolitan area is safe after dark. And Chicago? He is simply living the life of a fat hen, waiting to be slaughtered.
Is this sad? No, it’s infuriating. But he tolerates it and, worse, pays taxes to support it. He is part of the problem he laments. I will try to remember his name so I don’t read his whimpering drivel again. Unless the title to the article is, “I finally moved out of Illinois.”
