Trump can be just as civil and nice as you want him to be, but you appear to believe that if he is, he will be presented by the media as that inauthentic facade you wish him to be instead of who he is.
I believe a “kinder and gentler” Trump will not soften the harsh, untruthful light that the media seeks to portray him in, and would negate his strength.
Trump’s draw is his authenticity. When someone asked him about Israel-Gaza last week, he said, without sticking his finger in the air, “Israel should finish the job.”
Any other politician is going to say mushy crap. Trump said it as he felt it should be, and didn’t check the polls, the wind, or any focus groups for the right verbiage.
And even if he did, it would not compel the Media to present him to the electorate in any way different from the negative way they are. Playing that political game is a losing game, and dishonest to boot. And it is naiveté that plays right into the hands of the enemy.

Assuming he wins the nom (and that appears likely) I want Trump to be elected.
A few concerns. From Trump's election in 2016, the electorate has changed by almost half a generation. Many of my contemporaries (70+ years of age, veterans, educated to think for ourselves, and recalling a wonderful, sunny, safe, and patriotic time in our Country's great past) have sadly "gone west". And, those "kids" who were between 12 and 17 at the time (and who do not know true history and never watch or read anything that Trump or Conservatives produce and who think that climate change is the crisis of our time) will now be voting. It's a different electorate.
Much of elections, especially in the electronic age, is now a beauty contest. Appearance (attractive, youthful, dynamic) means votes. This is why I'm inclined to suspect that the Dems have no intention of Biden actually running.
Trump, for his part, needs to look at Reagan (and even Eisenhower) for how to act and what to say, IF he wants to win. Wisdom, restraint, absence of insults, and working to build a relationship with those he's thrown off the island would be a good start.
That said, negatives are difficult to erase, and he just keeps piling them on.
