Three photo agencies have retracted a picture of the Princess of Wales over concerns it has been "manipulated".
The image, taken by Prince William and issued by Kensington Palace for Mother's Day, showed Catherine with their three children.
But, Associated Press was the first to pull the image as it "did not meet" the agency's photo standards noting an "inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte's left hand".
Kensington Palace are yet to comment.
The photo shows the princess sitting down, surrounded by Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince George, the latter wrapping his arms around her.
It was the first official photo of the Princess of Wales since her abdominal surgery two months ago. Since then she has stayed out of the public eye.
The image was posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales's social media accounts with a message from Catherine which said: "Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months.
"Wishing everyone a Happy Mother's Day."
But, late on Sunday night, the Associated Press, which initially published the photo after being issued by Kensington Palace, issued a "kill notification" - an industry term used to make a retraction.
It said: "At closer inspection it appears that the source has manipulated the image. No replacement photo will be sent."
A second photo agency, Reuters, said it too had withdrawn the image "following a post-publication review".
This was followed by a third agency, AFP, which also issued a "mandatory kill notice".

“The perspective isn’t right.” Look at how large Kate’s head is compared to the rest of her body. She’s a tall woman. Her legs here look like they belong on a smaller person. Charlotte’s left hand comes out of her sleeve at the wrong angle. It looks like the hand was attached and it doesn’t line up with the inside of the sleeve.
And, is England that green at this time of year? Green grass, green trees?
That looks like my backyard. How could they?
I see the area. It’s on the right with the girl’s sweater cuff (part is missing) and mother’s right hand (no shadow on the hand). Looks like sloppy photoshop.
It’s England! We used to go there quite a lot at this time of year and yes, it’s quite green and Spring is in full bloom, at this time of year there. And I have many photos to prove it! And our photos were taken with a camera, long before there was an iPhone.
No, it is NOT!
He ALWAYS does that finger crossed thing. Look at old pictures of him.
Nothing wrong with photo.
That was DI; Catherine is just like my mother...naturally thin. Plus, Catherine is VERY sporty and active.
How about a hysterectomy? How long does it take to recover from that?
Queen Elizabeth II had BONE CANCER, which was NEVER disclosed until the day or three after she had died!
Nobody knows whet was wrong with Philip...just that for the last few years he was ill.
The Royals have NEVER been all THAT "open" about illnesses.
How green is it in Britain in late February and early march?
Sloppy work... they probably thought it was good enough.
Poor woman.
Or maybe intentionally sloppy, which leads to more distractions/ conspiracy theories.
Tile work sucks
Just a waste of energy all around.
This photo was supposedly taken two days ago, SO FORGET FEBRUARY!
I'd post an old photo, but I am NOT tech savvy enough to do that and please do NOT say that you'll teach me how to do it; I won't get it. But I DO have photos at this time of year, to prove what I'm saying, besides my memories.
Really no idea, but I think I heard it has become routine and less recuperation time.
I think I see your point about the girl's hand (angle/'alignment'). Doesn't the hand look a bit wrong in scale? It is in the foreground, but in my opinion, not enough to make the child's fingers look broader than Kate's.
Associated Press has standards? Who knew?
Who are you a fan of in the UK?
