Last week Newt Gingrich tried to remind Americans how serious the threat of nuclear conflict remains. In a sober essay, he warned that the United States is not prepared to withstand nuclear or electromagnetic pulse attacks and urged Americans to prepare for unthinkable possibilities. Then a few days later, I woke up to read that “white rural rage” is the greatest “threat to democracy” and thought, “Well, at least we don’t have to worry about nuclear Armageddon now.” Such is the sorry state of the “woke” West that the “thinking class” moronically obsesses over trivialities, while ignoring everything that is disastrous.
This somewhat regurgitated “white rural rage” thesis comes from a “journalist” and an “academic” who have written a book explaining why white, patriotic Americans who just want to live their lives free from government interference are actually responsible for everything wrong in the country. Just when I think my white-hot contempt for closed-minded toffs couldn’t burn more brightly, a couple nitwits ratchet up my “rage” to eleventy. Dang, they got me. Turns out that if you scapegoat rural Americans long enough, some will get angry. Uff da.
Of course, anyone who lives in or near rural America knows that the brain-dead professor and reporter tag-team responsible for this drivel never spent any time meeting the people whom they disparage. If they had, it would have been impossible for them to write so dishonestly (even for people paid to lie for a living). Rural America is where authentic democracy flourishes. People still gather in churches and town squares to discuss their communities’ hardships and successes. Law enforcement and firefighting depend on the efforts of volunteers. Local papers tell stories of next-door neighbors and follow the adventures of townspeople far from home — many risking their lives in combat overseas.

“The left is definitely confused..”
The Left? Is EVIL! Arragant and Dumb but Brutal when in power.
The time is coming to determine if our nation can survive this crap. I think Texas and the Border is the first engagement.
The Border Invasion is the flag identifying a war. A globalist attack on the USA and an internal betrayal among our bought leaders.
The November elections will determine our future.
Either way, We WILL fight them to the end.
“”a “journalist” and an “academic” who have written a book””
It’s so easy to get turned off reading any more of an article when it starts out with such poor grammar... I saw only one name as the author....
I would love to be able to find a small town in rural USA to settle in, spend my remaining years, either that, or an island in the middle of the Pacific.
Alex Jone has been saying this for while...this is the end game. Attack those in rural areas and label them as terrorists.
Farmers are already being demonized and under steady attack by climate change activists.
The government would like to take over all means of food production (like the Soviets) to give them even more control over the population.
I suspect leftists will try to confiscate their land in the name of “stopping climate change.”
I have heard of some efforts to get homeowners to register their gardens. I wonder why.
“”Newt is speaking outside of his area of competence here. The EMP threat is way overstated.””
I respectfully disagree; both about Newt’s area of competence and overstating EMP. He had to understand what it was about long before he wrote the Foreward to Forstchen’s book “One Second After.” Sure, it’s fiction but can anyone honestly say or believe it CAN’T HAPPEN HERE?
I believe Putin is well on his way to having an EMP weapon against the United States in light of his recent blatherings. I don’t believe anyone is prepared for such “widespread outages” as you mentioned. People went nuts a few days ago when their cell phones stopped working..imagine a larger scale of “outages” involving every aspect of our daily lives.
I can live without a cell phone and I do but I don’t want to be without Free Republic.....
And no Newt has not technical understanding of nuclear weapons and their effects.
And you show your own ignorance as well. It's not Putin is on the verge of getting.... We showed the issue 60 years ago.
Like you said, it's fiction.
The bigger threat is the tempation to climb up the escalation ladder in Ukraine. Putin is warning where it leads. In our recent military debacles we have always been able to throw around a few more high tech weapons to stay in the losing hand we dealt ourselves by trying to fix societies in ways their culture will not accept. We are doing it against the Houthis right now. When you are defense and trying to stop the other side from hurting you, it can work. When you are tring to oeverthrow another government, it turns out it doesn't.
We haven't been in this kind of hot war directly with a nuclear armed peer over an issue he has declared as his vital national interest in a long long time, if ever.
We have lots of national security issues and lots of messes. But mutual nuclear annihilation and the possible attendence of EMP weapons is not nearly as pressing as we can't even keep up with the production of artillery shells to support an modernized version of WWI trench warfare.
None of this stuff constitutes have a genuine national secruity strategy dealign with the world as it actually is while avoiding showdowns headed towards mutual annihilation.
No, it’s their enemy, because they need an enemy, but it’s not much of a threat.
It’s not a bad thing to be feared.
It keeps things, most times polite.
“”We showed the issue 60 years ago.””
Explain please....about EMP 60 years ago? That’s the subject, I believe.
Entire subject is well-covered in the classic text in the open literature Glasstone and Dolan, third edition 1977 first edition 1950
Well covered? How many years do I have to read it?? I don’t have that much time left. I see EMP stats and effects start at page 514 and ends at 539.. Simple, right? Can I get it in 25 words or less? It doesn’t even allow for cut and paste. I know. I tried.
As to Forstchen’s book being fiction - so was Atlas Shrugged. How many of us understood what Ayn Rand was telling us in that book? How many of us saw it happening? Wasn’t that fiction?
I have done you google search for you. Here is a version that you can copy from. There is nothing obscure about this whole subject. It is a “classic” field. Complicated, sure. But it’s compination of nuclear physics, plasma physics and electrodynamics.

“”There is nothing obscure about this whole subject.””
I’ll let you know when I finish laughing....
Try selling that book in a small town.
They’ll have to take my rake out of my cold dead hand!!
