I don't need a Microsoft account to use the Windows laptop I'm typing this post on.

To Musk's point, Microsoft pushes setting up a MS account kind of front and center when setting up your laptop. You have to click No in many places and such to eventually set up a login for the OS not tied to a MS account. Put's it's a stretch to say MS requires it to run Windows.

Oops. “Put’s it’s a...” should be “But it’s a...”

It’s really annoying when you are setting up pro on a laptop for an organization and you have to do a stupid dance to create a local account because adding a microsoft account to a new machine that’s going to be added to a domain is stupid

Windows 11 literally needs a set of tricks during the install to force it to a local account. You have to open a Command Prompt window and disable your network adapter at the right time to keep Windows from going forward with an online Microsoft account.

It is not a well known process.
