Fast food is typically a budget-friendly option for a quick meal, though in recent days it no longer seems to be as cheap, approaching nearly $20 for a combo meal.
While those lower-cost burgers aren’t so long behind us, looking back at the costs of fast food in the 90s could make your jaw drop, as this photographer managed to capture.
Chris Luckhardt traveled to Adak Island, Alaska, where he discovered an abandoned McDonald’s — with a menu that hasn’t been touched since 1994.

DINO-SIZE? No wonder people on that island went extinct?
Imagine that, paying your employees $15.00 per hour would have that kind of effect. /sarc.
I remember a commercial for McDonald’s some years back. It basically said, for a $1.00. You get a hamburger, small fries and drink and you’ll get change back! (Probably a cent)
I watched an old movie from 1967 a few nights ago. DIVORCE AMERICAN STYLE. Dick Van Dyke goes into a McDonalds and ordered and received a “Double meat cheeseburger, fries and a coke. That will be 57 cents please.”
I remember a pack of LUCKIES from the vending machine with two cents wrapped in the cellophane.
As I remember, that’s when some of the Micky-Dees still used meat in their hamburgers...
And even today, a bum can easily collect enough change to buy 3,000+ calories worth of fast food. It is literally impossible to starve in the U.S. today, unless you’re trying to.
They don’t look shockingly low to me-they look a little high for 1994-=I suspect because it is a remote location.
Of note-the dollar menu does not appear to exist yet-I’m pretty sure it did come out under dollar Bill’s reign though.
Keep up the good work posting interesting material.
I’ve been lol all day over the forced trans story.
And the rest of the country has to deal with liberalnomics.
I too remember much lower prices in their ads. One TV ad that stuck in my head was “You can feed a family of four, for under FIVE DOLLARS!”
Now you can’t even get a 2 cheeseburger meal for that price.
And while the prices on the ‘93 menu are considerably lower than on the ‘94, you have to remember that Adak is a LOOOOOOONG ways from mainland America. Freight must have killed them for the basic necessities, let alone luxury goods.
A friend of mine joined the Navy and was sent to Adak, Alaska. He was not a happy camper. I don’t know if he ever patronized that McDonald’s. It was well before 1994.
Yep...I remember those days.
The #2, 2-cheeseburger meal was always my favorite.
That’s about 6.49 today, bleep you feceral reserve.🤬
Print enough money backed by nothing and it will become worthless. We are watching it happen…..
