FWIW, I’ve applied to the govt. for a grant to investigate the origin of the comma.......Waiting for their response.

I recall that an IBM 360 sent one of my decimal points back in time.

So there.

IT would be quite curious to find decimals used with roman numerals!

I wouldn't put it past those ancient alchemists.

Doesn’t work well if you have no symbol for zero.

Fractional math before decimals was pointless.

The CDC Cyber 6000 series mainframe computers used a 60-bit memory size. It was chosen because 60 could be conveniently divided by 2, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 30. The integral divisors made it great for storing lots of different-sized data types.

The choice of using 60 to divide hours into minutes was for the same reason: lots of nice integral divisors.

Van Brummelen recalls his excitement, rushing through the dormitory halls with his computer, eager to share his discovery. He shouted, “Look at this, this guy is doing decimal points in the 1440s!”

What a nerd. Good for him.

I think everyone finally got the point. As a nation though, it’s only since Obama that we’ve really seen division.

It’s all inversely proportional.

He may have been the One, but nobody is going to be dividing by Zero.

I strongly suspect, however, that he was the first binary ‘president’.

True. He seems kind of square, but the sum total shows he’s a radical.
