In high school in NYS Regents program we HAD to take 3 years of a language (Latin, Spanish, or French), and 3 years of Math (algebra, geometry, and trig and/or calculus), and 3 years of Science (general, biology, and chemistry), and 3 years of History.
I hated it, but appreciated it for decades after.
Hate to say but I’ll bet it includes a lot from all persuasions.

Today’s kids, the tiktok generation, do things for the present, not the future.
Un mentioned is the fact that North Carolina State University is and always has been dedicated to engineering and sciences including math.
NC State is the very embodiment of stem
For 2022, the NC State enrollment was 26,254 and Chapel hill was 20,210
