Well you judge a short film on various techniques - cinematography, acting, writing, themes, dialogue, editing and whether it engages or moves you in some way (emotional, entertaining, educational etc). I’m not judging since I didn’t see it but my first thought was what does a 25 year old ivy league educated former first daughter know about loneliness, loss and regret? She might be a very empathetic person - many great artists are.
Anyway you gotta start somewhere and you gotta fail along the way to learn the skills to get better. Getting panned, she might have learned something about loss and regret.
