The Beach Boys were making music in th 1950s.
He’s needed a guardian most of his life.
He’s had some serious mental breakdowns.
Sad
He was an Acid casualty by all accounts. They dosed him up bigtime.
I was over at his house 6 months ago, I haven’t been able to understand what he says for a few years now, he has been going downhill for quite a while now. pretty sad.
The Beach Boys are still touring.
I’ve seen them in the 70’s, and again a half dozen years ago with Wilson at the Piano.
Probably time to hang it up :)
"Brian, we have a citation here for you sir under Section 936A of the California Catch a Wave Statute. Brian, you’re in violation of Paragraph 12: failing to surf, neglecting to use a state beach for surfing purposes, and otherwise avoiding surfboards, surfing and surf."
Brian has had mental-health issues for decades, and his drug use in ‘60s and ‘70s likely exacerbated that, combined with all the legal meds that his looney-toon psychotherapist Gene Landy pumped into him in the ‘80s.
And yet no one can deny, that despite all his issues, the man was (and probably on some level still is) an incredible genius of musical composition, production and arrangement. Truly in his own category of talent. In the documentary on the “Wrecking Crew” musicians, the late Leon Russell, no slouch himself as a musician, states flat out that Brian was the greatest genius that he ever worked with.

Acid has no correlation to causing dementia.
In fact, they are now using acid to TREAT dementia.
We watched that movie/doc on the Wrecking Crew—amazing. That fat bass line in Wichita Lineman has no rival..
Yeah, they were a big part of my early childhood pre-Beatles.
Brian Wilson had a great quote about the Beatles when they exploded in late 63-early 64.
“Suddenly, four guys from England were so right, and everyone else was so wrong.”
Far out, man.
Surf rock is my favorite genre of music even though it was a little before my time. I frequently listen to surf instrumentals including work done recently by newcomers.
Brian Wilson in action with the Beach Boys, recording “I Can Hear Music”, with Kathy Troccoli singing the lead. Timeless, and there’s no question this is Brian’s band:

An aside ... When Brian has a breakdown on the road in ‘64, they called in Glen Campbell to fill in for him. At least, that’s what I saw on TV yesterday. So it must be true.
Your comment makes me wonder if the term savant can be applied to him. Maybe a high functioning one but still someone with mental health issues but yet had a natural brilliance in, in his case, music that was a step above other musicians.
