I am of Scots and Irish heritage. Primarily Scots, but with an Irish name.
The stereotype of a Scot is an engineer (think Startrek). I am an engineer and so was my father before me. Maybe my ancestors were engineers back when everyone lived in caves.
I love the stereotype. We make things work.
How can American Indians be insulted by using their names to imply strength and ability?
To: Red Badger
Forget the Indians. Take their names off everything and consign them to history.

I like Tribal names.
But mostly, I just want to know that the injun runs good.

“I’m sure this comes from a place that is well-intended, but it does not honor us by having our name plastered on the side of a car…The best way to honor us is to learn about our sovereign government, our role in this country, our history, culture, and language and have meaningful dialogue with federally recognized tribes on cultural appropriateness.”Tribal politicians are politicians, therefore "our sovereign government" comes first.
But seriously, is anybody actually going to do any of that?
People would just as soon forget about the Cherokee entirely, so maybe team names and car names aren't that bad.

THE ONLY NEW CAR I ever owned was a 1965 Pontiac wagon.
Got it in Feb 1965-—sold it 30 years later with OVER 444,000 miles on it & same engine.
Wish I hadn’t sold it.

My first car was a car I bought because I could afford it - $250 - when I started college in 1968; a 1956 Pontiac Star Chief. Yes, it was not your typical college kids car, but I could afford it and it served me well, even when I could not serve it well.

Pontiac was discontinued in 2010. The author didn’t do much research.
