New York City actually has a ‘school’ where all the bad teachers go and just hang out all day. !!

They can’t be fired because of union rules. So if they’ve done some violation they’re sent to an actual school where they sit and read newspapers all day.

Here’s a story on it:

The stated rationale for the reassignment centers is unassailable: Get these people away from children, even if tenure rules require that they continue to be paid. Most urban school systems faced with tenure constraints follow the same logic. Los Angeles and San Francisco pay suspended teachers to answer phones, work in warehouses, or just stay home; in Chicago they do clerical work. But the policies implemented by other cities are on a far smaller scale—both because they have fewer teachers and because they have not been as aggressive as Klein and Bloomberg in trying to root out the worst teachers.

It seems obvious that by making the Rubber Rooms as boring and as unpleasant as possible Klein was trying to get bad teachers to quit rather than milk the long hearing process—and some do, although the city does not keep records of that.

That’s nuts. But I guess if you’re paid to surf the internet all day without having to deal with parent/kid issues, there’s a little upside to that.

You should not post what you don't know about. Especially from the lefty sources you cite. We've all read about Russia's bringing political rivals of Putin up on fake charges and subjecting them to prison, torture, etc. The extreme libtard NYC did the same thing to its teachers. It started under Bloomberg, may he drop dead very soon. He muscled his way to having mayoral control of the schools vs. school boards having it. His paradigm is business, not education. He knows nothing about that. But that didn't stop him from imposing untested teaching protocols on teachers without a bit of input from them. And, he figured he would make out like a bandit when he could get rid of senior teachers and hire two newbies right out of college for the same price as an experienced teacher. He was totally ignorant about the fact that it takes years to develop good classroom management and other teacher skills. Nope, he was penny wise and pound foolish. So he directed his administrators to find reasons to bring senior teachers up on charges, the vast majority of which were bogus. There were some bad teaches who needed to go, but the vast majority were political prisoners. Teachers were accused of saying things which "caused anxiety in students" or even of physically touching them, when they had done nothing of the sort. Students were actually solicited to write statements against their teachers; these statements were full of language no student would ever use, with the low reading levels they had. When asked what some of those words meant, the students simply gave blank looks--so you know vindictive administrators wrote the statements, not the students. Then teachers had to go through completely kangaroo courts of hearings to answer these "charges" brought against them. If they were not terminated on the basis of these charges, then they were fined thousands of dollars and "sentenced" to sit in the rubber rooms. After all, they were now deemed "dangerous" to the students. Funny though, after paying the thousands of dollars of fines, they were often reinstated in the classroom. That made them kosher once again, just to show the level of absolute corruption that was going on. Not only were senior teachers targeted, but conservative teachers most of all, those who refused to pass students who never came to class or who did no work. They just wouldn't play ball with the administrators who were paid thousands of dollars in bonuses for good passing statistics, so they had to go. And this bogus setup was perfect for bypassing tenure and such. So absolutely corrupt, so absolutely sickening to subject dedicated teachers to this humiliation, to the loss of their positions, and waste hundreds of years of classroom experience. And so absolutely characteristic of a cesspool completely bereft of morals like NYC. Think of the rubber rooms as gulags and you'd come close to seeing how very like Russia NYC treated its teachers.
