Appearances are sometimes misleading. Carlson was not commenting on what the system was built for. He was commenting on the appearance of what he saw. And he was trying to refer to the system as a portrait of the city and it’s well groomed display. So the portrait is not consistent with the actual problems of the system.
According to the Russian Travel Advisory and the US state department:
“Do not travel to Russia due to the unpredictable consequences of the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces, the potential for harassment and the singling out of U.S. citizens for detention by Russian government security officials, the arbitrary enforcement of local law, limited flights into and out of Russia, the Embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, and the possibility of terrorism. U.S. citizens residing or travelling in Russia should depart immediately. Exercise increased caution due to the risk of wrongful detentions.”
That sound like a well groomed city pleasing to people? Appearances can be misleading. You may not catch a disease on the subway but you can be harrassed, robbed, attacked, and arrested for a liberal determination by Russian law enforcement. This type of presentation of cleanliness is misleading of what it actually is. It’s a facade assisted by Carlson. And I mentioned before in another post that Carlson is nothing more than a tool for Putin to use to mislead, and in some cases outright lie to, the western world Putin both hates and is afraid of. But Carlson is worse as he should know better or not be there allowing Putin to pimp him out. I don’t fault Putin for his actions because that hatred has been in Russia for generations teaching youth, right or wrong. They have the right to their opinion. But I do fault Carlson for his stupidity in defending it with false appearances.
