We have lots of that down here we also have lots of skin cancer, the old double edged.....

As far as I know there are two ways to get skin cancer.
1. Have sever blistering sunburn over and over in the same spots as a child.
2. Poison sunscreen and never getting any sun, including and especially in the eyes (sunglasses, car windows, home windows, etc block UV).

The sun is your friend, especially when you get some on your torso and in your eyes.

Side note: I can look directly at the sun indefinitely before 1000 and after 16/1700 and I'm at 27°. I haven't worn shades in a decade.
