I spent some time house siting in Coastal SCal some years ago. The orders from the relative was not let the cat out after dark and watch the dog for a potty break after dark.
My old neighbor was a retired cop and he said they had reports of mountain lions in West Iowa for years. He said they found a dead great Dane that one had killed and his nder a brush pile.
