Ex-Nato head says Putin wanted to join alliance early on in his rule
The Guardian ^ | 11/4/21 | Jenifer Rankin

Vladimir Putin wanted Russia to join Nato but did not want his country to have to go through the usual application process and stand in line “with a lot of countries that don’t matter”, according to a former secretary general of the transatlantic alliance. George Robertson, a former Labour defence secretary who led Nato between 1999 and 2003, said Putin made it clear at their first meeting that he wanted Russia to be part of western Europe. “They wanted to be part of that secure, stable prosperous west that Russia was out of at the time,” he said. The Labour peer recalled an early meeting with Putin, who became Russian president in 2000. “Putin said: ‘When are you going to invite us to join Nato?’ And [Robertson] said: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.’ And he said: ‘Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.’” The account chimes with what Putin told the late David Frost in a BBC interview shortly before he was first inaugurated as Russian president more than 21 years ago. Putin told Frost he would not rule out joining Nato “if and when Russia’s views are taken into account as those of an equal partner”.

Rev wrong if I am reading you right you don’t think that the USSR should not of been ended? The neocons ended the Warsaw pact? Gee I thought it ended because all of the captive nations escaped and the only one left was Russia. Gee, who knew!

Ukraine is apparently no better.

Russia should have been welcomed as prodigal son into the family of Western Civilization and Christendom at the end of the Cold War. Instead, the neoCON scum elites needed a boogeyman to continue their insane scheme and MIC money laundering. The elites are not Christian and do not want a united Christendom, so instead we get globohomo run by the neoCON sickos like Bushes / Romney / Mcconnel / Linda Faggot Graham etc. - all united with the antifa dems like Hillary and obama

No. After the USSR / Warsaw Pact collapse, NeoCon RETARDS handled it like they had just won WW1 and were repeating the Versailles Treaty.

Punitive in victory always leads to blowback 20+ years down the road.

Putin: “When are you going to invite Russia into NATO?” NATO: “Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.” Putin: “Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.”

How arrogant. Putin is saying, “Let us in, but we don’t want to have to go through the regular procedures. Just let us in because we are so much better than everyone else and should not be required to do what everyone else has to do.”

Your hero.

Ivan Illyn observed that Russia was the first country to be taken by Communism, and he predicted it would be the first to exit it.

The Globohomo West is still working its way into Communism. And it will take its own Regime Change to get out of it.

I think we should have offered the Marshall Plan for the former Soviet Union. If handled well, that would have prevented the rise of Putin.

“Ivan Illyn observed that Russia was the first country to be taken by Communism, and he predicted it would be the first to exit it.”

That’s why Russia into NATO likely would have failed in the long-term. There was NO WAY that the Neocons were going to let Russia protect its kids, protect its industries from Greta, and protect its borders from Third World invaders.

Don’t believe me? Look at what the Neocons are doing to Hungary as they essentially follow the Russian approach to the above issues.

Russia can still join NATO. But first...

Stop invading other countries.
Institute required civil rights and democratic reforms.
Institute freedom and liberty.

In short, kill Putin and hold free elections.

Personally, I think your jr. psychoanalyst badge should be confiscated. I didn’t have the visions you obviously had when Putin was speaking. Why would a Ukophile admire Catherine the Great and would want her feet kissed?

“Catherine risked her reputation in the West as an Enlightened ruler, however, to expand her territory into Ukraine. While Catherine entertained European royalty and thinkers at her court, her armies fought in a war with the Ottoman Empire (modern day Turkey) for control of the Black Sea. Peter the Great had opened Russia up to the Baltic Sea, founding St. Petersburg on the Baltic Coast, but Catherine was determined to expand her south eastern frontier and develop a permanent Russian presence on the Black Sea.”

Why do you think Odessa is Russian? She founded it in 1795. They sell history books.

It does not, look at the celebrations after ww2. That does not make sense. Russia is a predatory backwards corrupt society and that nature never changed.

I didn’t say I wanted her feet kissed. I said that Putty is a failed Catherine II and isn’t even fit to get stepped on by one of her heels. He wants to recreate what she was able to bring into being, but he’s impotent, even with the arsenal he has inherited. It appears believing that his oligarch friends were actually strengthening the Russian military rather than lying and pocketing the government handouts was not the smartest move. Too bad he had to find out after invading.

Reagan (and others) pushed. The Soviet Union fell. Reagan won the cold war. Lesser men were unable to win the peace.

No, that’s more western disinfo. This all started over the Ukraine NATO crazy talk. It would have ended peacefully with Ukraine intact under the Minsk Agreements, neutral and in control of Donbas. But DC scuttled it. Here we sit $250 billion, 250,000 more dead and a destroyed country later because DC said no peace, no stable Ukraine. DC made that call, not Putin.

“Russia offered to end Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in the spring of 2022 if Ukraine agreed to drop its ambitions to join NATO, according to the head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s political party, who was present at peace negotiations.

David Arakhamia, leader of the Ukrainian political party Servant of the People, revealed part of the purported deal during an interview with Ukrainian journalist Natalia Moseychuk on Friday. The Kyiv official previously led the Ukrainian delegation that held peace talks with senior Russian officials in the months following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.”

I don’t think a Marshall Plan was necessary.

But what happened is Western Carpetbaggers teamed up with the newly minted Oligarchs and Yeltsin’s Scalawag gov’t and robbed Russia in the 1990’s.

Many of the NeoCons and advocates for war were the ones looting Russia who were kicked out by Putin when he took over.

A Marshall Plan was not necessary. Western gov’t just had to not take advantage and allow Oligarch/Carpetbagger robbery of Russia - instead of insisting on it via Neo-liberal “economic reforms”.

Russia could have followed Lukashenko’s lead in Belarus and kept control of most of the industries. As a result, Belarus handled the transition of the fall of the Soviet Union pretty well. None of that “shock therapy”.

It’s interesting you believe Russia should be able to interfere in another country’s right to join organizations and become party to treaties. It’s funny that Russia’s invasion has driven more countries into applying for NATO membership.

Putty had a dream of Novorossiya, a term coined by Catherine. So far, he’s failed and killed a lot of people for his fantasy.
