Sounds like when I worked retail. I told the manager that we could be more efficient if each cashier station had a hand calcuator, and they were on sale at Staples.

I said, "Should I pick up half a dozen?"

She said, "That's too many."

So I said, "OK, how many should I buy?"

And she said, "Six."
