Hey, that's an understandable number you've provided for context. Thanks. For further reference for others, it's about 24.5 million acre feet, or about 87% of Lake Mead's capacity. California's average annual total irrigation usage is about 34 million acre feet.

(It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when "journalists" use some very high number to make things sound more impressive. I can deal in annual water usage, or acre feet etc. But trillions of gallons???)

Journalist: OMG, the storm could dump up to 1 013 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 molecules of water!!!!!

And just because everyone loves them as informal units, that's enough water to cover Rhode Island to a depth of almost 25 feet (!). Or to provide the Mississippi River's average annual discharge at Baton Rouge for about 21 days :)

We should be fine. Levels have been drawn down for winter. These types of storms, while not an every wonter occurance—do happen if one lives on a long enough timneline to experience these types of things. No need for Climate Change Therapists around here.

Power out in many places. Including the repeater up on Sutter Buttes that covers a very wide area. Running off of battery power at the moment. Our little GMRS neighborhood radio watch repeater is workin g just fine. There will be localized flooding, some trees will be going down and many of us will loose power.

I have the generator staged ( just a little 2k job that runs off of propane) A ready light running off of one of my many outputs on my ham radio battery box Just a flip of the switch and voila—no fumbing for candles and matches...

There will be some that will be affected by trees going through their roof or flooding streets and what not. All in all a big winter storm up and down the state.

You’re not kidding. Shasta is the largest reservoir in the state at 4.5 million acre feet. It began last season at about 500k before a record-breaking season. Now it’s still at about 3.8M acre feet. All major reservoirs in the state are similar. See the link

This brunt of this storm is missing the northern Sierra and the major reservoirs. El Niño has not quite paid off as hoped. Still all the reservoirs will spill—- they’ve got the floodgates open now to maintain some flood control capability. Vast amounts will be dumped into the sea
