My wife has had 2 grand mal (clonic/tonic) seizures. The first on my birthday in August 2019. I was panicked, but did my best to maintain her airway and call 911 where her co-workers answered the call. Soon I had 10 cops and 10 firemen standing in my bedroom. Off to ER. Diagnosis DKA (diabetic keto-acidosis). The seizure likely due to insufficient CO2 in her blood due to rapid breathing to expel the ketones. The 2nd time came in Feb 2020. A similar response. Off to ER. Not DKA. A legitimate seizure. Now on anti-convulsants.
I'm sorry that you didn't have an opportunity to say good bye or offer an intervention. Sometimes there isn't a thing you can do even if it occurs in a fully attended ER. Your tribute is a wonderful celebration of the good times you enjoyed together.
A friend once quipped “Maybe our purpose in life is to serve as an example” and we realized it is more true than we imagined. He had gone through a similar thing with his brother. You take those tragedies in life and turn them into lessons. Maybe someone who hears that story speaks differently to their spouse or child or friend because of it. I know I did. There are many here who have lost a parent or spouse or child or friend and they remind us to appreciate those people while they are here. It’s just so easy to take that time for granted.
I mentioned this post to my wife. She was telling me about her best friend’s husband who had become abusive. Our 35th anniversary is coming up. She asked which anniversary it was. I said it was the “Take your best friend to Italy” anniversary.
I recently lost my wife of 16 years to cardiac failure. Her loss has been devastating. We had a fight before we went to bed and our last words were not pleasant. When the alarm went off and I rolled over and saw her laying there eyes open and motionless, I knew I lost her. I’d give ANYTHING to tell her that I ‘m sorry for the fight and to tell her that I love her one more time.
I lost my wife in September of 2019. She had a stroke on her way to work (teacher), hit a light pole, and was brain dead from that moment until her body gave out 6 days later.
You have my condolences and prayers, for you and your family. I won’t say it gets easier, but it does get better.
I am so so sorry for your loss. As most couples, we’ve had our arguments and loud fights. That is why before she goes to bed (earlier than me), she gives me a sincere kiss with a big smile. We’ve lived long enough to know that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Hang tough, Brother, and make new memories to share with her when you see her again.
