Your average American today is passive, indifferent, poorly informed, and therefore easily manipulated. The national ethos ain't what it used to be. Nowadays the average American is generally accepting of big government’s control over their lives and they vote accordingly.

And that's what keeps me awake at night. Are the American people ready for self-government?

We were once defined as a law abiding, freedom loving, industrious people. That doesn’t describe today’s crop of Americans IMO.

There has been a cultural revolution that has eroded our ethics and values that has contributed to the creation of widespread dependency upon an ever expanding government. We keep voting for more and more government and then wonder why its become so inefficient, corrupt and unresponsive.

Self-government can only succeed in a favorable environment characterized by an informed populace that reveres liberty and demands accountability from its elected representatives. We no long satisfy those criteria IMO.
