RE: a third-world dump. On our first day, a man approached my wife in a store and asked her if she’d like to buy some “nose candy.” As we exited a tour bus, a woman offered to sell us her baby for $100. For the remaining two days of our trip, we didn’t venture far from our hotel.
Dear Hearts and Gentle People (1949)
...those dear hearts and gentle people
Will never ever let you down
They read the Good Book
From Friday ‘til Monday
That’s how the weekend goes
I feel so welcome each time that I return
That my happy heart keeps laughing like a clown
I love the dear hearts and gentle people
Who live and love in my home town.
I like Tom Lehrer’s song “My Home Town”. There are some YouTube videos.
