What do we make of the Apple Vision Pro
Apple, Inc. ^ | Jan 25 | RF

Next week it comes out.

I think it's interesting and could change things.

Apple are hyping it up as their biggest product launch since iPhone.

They call it "spatial" computing.

Unfortunately I dont have a spare 4k.

What do Freepers make of it? Probably not the target audience but do you see it taking off?

It’ll come down in price in due course

I think in terms of entertainment i.e movies it could be a hit

On launch day scalpers had listed for as much as $7000 on eBay !

I think it has the potential to be great, maybe even change the way we consume digital media but I don’t see it happening at $3500. Today we are used to seeing people hunched over their phones everywhere. 10 years from now it could be people wearing some contraption on their head ‘staring’ into space, like zombies.

Wait until all the high-end mf’ers try to drive with these things strapped to their stupid heads. And of course, the Apple ad is pure unadulterated in-your-face DEI, scruffy third-world brown male with his cute white chick.

This is Apple’s foray into virtual and/or augmented reality which others have been perfecting for years. It is way more expensive than most other VR and AR headsets. But since it has high quality specifications, some interesting innovations and Apple tends to charge a more than their competitors... the price does not really surprise me. Unless it is a complete flop, I would not expect the price to drop anytime soon. I am not sure how many people have that much money to spend on this type of product.

Currently, the Pimax Crystal VR headset is less than half the price with 5760x2880 resolution. But it is a little bit of an apples to orange comparison. And of course the lower resolution headsets are a fraction of the price.. I have some of the goggles you put your cell phone in and they are kind of fun for an extremely small amount. You can pretend you are riding a roller coaster or look at 360 virtual tours.

Apple is probably going to need to make them compatible with a lot more software quickly to get them to really take off. I think we are going to be seeing more and more of these types of products in the future. It will be interesting to see how Apples marketing and followers will react to this.

I’ve been following a bit since they announced it, but not like a new gadget dork. It looks like the only really virtual reality system that actually works and it incorporates a full Mac in it for computing in that environment. I think that is pretty cool. Time will tell. I need to upgrade from my older MacBook Pro, but am not in a hurry. I’ll be interested to have a look at it when it’s on display at the Apple Stores around here anyway. Apple is great when it comes to real innovation compared to everyone else.

Haha! Yes indeed-y! The best innovation Apple made was to give us the Unix shell from 1969 seamlessly built into MacOS.

Yeah. It’s everywhere and I hate it. It’s not just Apple, but any ads I see like that drives me nuts. It will go away at some point in future, but who knows when. I could also be wrong.

I am actually planning on buying an HP Reverb G2 VR Headset to use with Microsoft Flight Simulator and some other VR enabled programs sometime in the next few months. They are currently $629 on Amazon. They have 2160 x 2160 LCD Panels and are considered better than most other choices for MSFS 2020. It is a different type of product than the Apple Vision Pro... you need to hook it up to a computer. But currently there are more activities that you can use it with and it is a fraction of the price.

The more stuff that keeps people addicted and glued to their screens the better my outdoor recreation opportunities are.

AND of course. This will become another porno consumption device.

Looks interesting.
I wonder if people will be able to afford it with the biden economy in full swing.
Maybe the illegals could, so there’s that.
