Interesting thing is, with all the downside of current batteries and EV’s, a revolution in solid state batteries appears to be coming within the next three years.
They say Tesla is not working on them, but I have to believe he’s going to convert to their use.
I might even buy a current Tesla if the price plunges enough.
But everything is a waiting game for the new batteries.
No or greatly reduced fire risk, lighter, longer range and quicker charging.

“” [Solid state batteries] greatly reduced fire risk, lighter, longer range and quicker charging.””

I will have to research solid state batteries. In the meantime, does anyone know if fast charging damages (physically/lifetime) solid state batteries?

Every serious Li-Ion manual I read states, unequivocally, to charge only to 80%, and do not use under 20%. Fast charging damages the battery, and reduces the lifetime of the battery.

On a related front,

There is a very recent story about Canadian wind and solar power generation during this very cold time. For wind power, when it is very cold, there is much less, or no, windy days. The central mechanism MUST BE kept warm, even when not in use, so Canada is using hydrocarbons to keep them warm. Canadian solar power is also suffering. Canada has vast reserves of hydrocarbons. Two hundred billion barrels of oil, and 200 years worth of natural gas. Again, this is just the known energy. We have only drilled a few miles into the Earth, and only in a few places.

As always, President Trump let the drillers Drill Baby Drill, and we became the Saudi Arabia of oil and natural gas. Inexpensive, abundant energy equals more freedom, and more freedom is anathema to The Ruling Class.

The real ‘greening of the Earth’ occurs with more C02. The drillers and explorers should be given awards for developing more energy for us, and more C02 for the plant world.
