Russia will seize the property of anyone who speaks out against Putin's invasion of Ukraine under proposals for brutal new Soviet-style crackdown

Russia's parliament is considering new legislation which would give the state the power to seize the property of people convicted for defamation of the armed forces or for calling publicly for actions that undermine state security.

-snip-

The move has drawn comparisons with the witch hunts of the 1930s under Soviet dictator Josef Stalin with their 'enemy of the state' rhetoric, and could affect thousands of Russians who have spoken out against Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

The speaker of the State Duma lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin, has dubbed the new bill 'the scoundrel law'.

'Everyone who tries to destroy Russia, betrays it, must be published accordingly and repay the damage to the country in the form of their property,' he said at the weekend while announcing the submission of the bill.

This is a war for survival of their nation and their freedoms. Usually, countries that are in that state respond the same way.

Isn’t this more like revoking the privilege of the people to possess the state’s property?

“This is a war for survival of their nation and their freedoms.”

That is what climate change is.

That is what taking the vaccine is.

That is what voting D is.

That is keeping defeating Trump is.

That is what open borders is.

That is what eliminating disinformation here is.

We just have many more wars of survival here.

In the United States they don't seize your property for opposing the regime, they just cancel you so you lose your job and can't afford the payments.

The government owns it all anyway, the taxpayers are just renting it from them.

If you’re Nazi Germany with Hitler in the bunker, yes. Generally, when a country is in this situation, the dictator gets overthrown and people concerned with the survival of the nation negotiate a peace BEFORE the country is completely destroyed. Z is in the process of strengthening his secret police and his repression. Z is installing Budanov, his intelligence agency thug, to replace Zaluzhnyi, Z’s Commander in Chief and last critic. Budanov has never commanded any army unit of any size. He is nothing but Z’s Beria. This is the Uke terror state our tax dollars make possible.

Russia must be learning from The Clintons, Obamas and Bidens.

I wonder if the Russians have noticed how many Americans have died after displeasing the Clintons.

“This is the Uke terror state”

Really you believe Ukraine is a terror state and not Russia?

Negotiate a peace with people who never live up their agreements? Is this really a good idea when they can be defeated and put in their place? If they are beat they may very well break up and it would make it harder to be a threat again. Removing Russia as a threat should be the goal. And that is what is important.

Ukraine has murdered dissents during this war, including US citizen Gonzalo Lira, and we're giving it money under the absurd premise that Ukraine is fighting for freedom and democracy.

Absolutely!

Never live up to their agreements?!? Give me break. The entire Minsk Agreement process, as openly admitted by Merkel, was a ruse to get more time to get NATO weapons into Ukraine and train the Ukes. It was good faith on the Russian’s part, complete lies on the West’s. Remember “not one inch east of the reunited German border”? You are a laugh riot lecturing the Russians about their credibility while you defend the lying warmongers in DC.

I only have this opinion because I am in regular contact with Ukrainian families in Ukraine...

Yes Ukraine is a terror state.
People are desperately trying to protect themselves and their families from the government

Go back and look at your search engine put in Russian arms treaty violations. Then after you get the results ask yourself why Russia violates these agreements. How on earth could anyone be stupid enough to trust “the good faith” of Russia? Unless of course you are a Russian troll. If the ukes used arms talks (which they were going to violate any way) why shouldn’t Germany use it to get arms into Ukraine.

Russia is an enemy of the peace of the world and is the number 1 threat. Got it?

In Soviet Russia, all property belongs to the state.

And it also is not Soviet. You must be one of Ukraine people.

It's been a long process of loosening up restrictions, but even foreigners may own land now.

“...under the absurd premise that Ukraine is fighting for freedom and democracy.”

That may be your premise - but it’s not mine nor is it of many others.

Rightly or wrongly, the govt was of Ukraine was legitimately elected. Now we may not approve of Zelensky or the endemic corruption that goes on in that country. I sure as hell don’t approve of it!

The greater point here was making the Russians pay, literally and figuratively, for their invasion. The idea is to punish the Russians for what they did - not reward the Ukrainians.
