Loved this. This is how LEO’s need to interact w/ their communities. Problem is half the communities are ghettos.

One of my fondest memories was doing this with the kids on base.
1983 Bad Hersfeld Germany 3/11ACR. My partner and I in a VW patrol van with the sliding door were driving near the COLs house when the kids hit us with about 20 snowballs.
We drove to the end of the street, armed ourselves and headed back in their direction, Side door open. As we approached I started throwing snowballs at them. The kids of course were retuning fire. After several passes we retreated to continue patrolling other areas.
Soon after we were told by the Desk Sargent to return to the station as the Provost Marshal needed to have a word with us.
We walk in to the station and the PM (Newfeld, may God keep his soul) asked if he had been in a snowball fight. We said yes and were expecting a major ass chewing. He said that the COL had called him about our conduct and was happy to see his MPs get their asses kicked by the kids in a snowball fight, and to keep it up.

Wonderful post, thank you. Talk about a great way to make friends with the kids. They’ll remember that forever. What fun for them AND the cops.
