Not long before he was killed Kennedy authorized treasury to issue close to 2 billion dollars in treasury notes backed by silver and also authorized the minting of close to 500,000 1964 Peace design dollars.
Ordering those burned and melted was one of, if not the first thing, Johnson did upon being inaugurated.
I just looked the coin up on PCGS and the story they run on that now is totally different than I’ve seen it from back as far 25-30 years ago
