We had some big reel-to-reel tape handling memory on the old Sigma-5 that ran our electric grid back in the early 90s, at which time it was replaced. The team that maintained that contraption were top notch.

70s technology. An active electro-mechanical map board showing our entire transmission system with dynamic indication when a transmission line tripped. It was ahead of its time.
